Cerebellum is important for brain function and can’t be ignored!

Despite being best known for its role in motor function, the cerebellum also plays a role in cognition.

The cerebellum is implicated in several neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders, including autism and psychosis.

Over 60% of neuroimaging studies exclude the cerebellum despite claiming to investigate the ‘whole brain’. The cerebellum remains underexplored despite a growing understanding of cerebellar function and recent advances in neuroimaging that make it easier to include the cerebellum in neuroimaging studies.

Integrating the cerebellum in neuroimaging research may unveil novel insights into whole-brain function with clinical relevance.
